/ About the project
Dear Summer partnered with the ACLU of the District of Columbia on projects calling for reform of District of Columbia Crisis Response System. This work examined the urgent need to shift the city's mental health crisis response away from a police-centered model toward a holistic, public health–focused approach.
Through documentary storytelling grounded in lived experience, the project highlighted systemic failures, harmful outcomes, and the real human cost of the current system, while advocating for a more compassionate and effective response to mental health crises. The collaboration also included the ACLU's Know Your Rights video, designed to provide clear, accessible legal information to the public.
